Spring Play Audition Info!

Doesn't it feel like we just finished the Fall Showcase and we're already talking about the Spring?  Oh wait, that's exactly what happened :)

For the record - here is the information we discussed at the meeting:

Mariel will be acting as the Head Director this Spring, with Stephanie assisting and continuing music directing.  Questions and other notifications should be directed to Mariel at mrosatiabw(at)gmail(dot)com.

AUDITIONS

Audition information and resources for music and dance auditions can be found on the Performing Arts Google Site.  Sheet music is available to print from the site, as well as the mp3 tracks that will be used during singing and optional dance auditions, and piano practice tracks.  Stephanie has a touch of laryngitis, but will record vocal practice tracks as soon as possible once that clears up.

Mariel will be posting monologue requirements on the blog as a separate post, so stay tuned for that information. You can find the monologues in this post.

It is recommended that you memorize your audition song and monologue to the best of your ability. Audition signups are posted outside the Activities Office at school, and those who sign up for Monday will receive a little more leniency on the memorization requirement.  Those who sign up for Thursday will be expected to be memorized.

Facebook members, please join the Facebook ABW Performing Arts Group if you have not already done so.

CASTING

As far as casting goes, we hope you all noticed the incredible amount of talent we have here at Wood during the Showcase.  That said, we unfortunately nly have a small number of parts to assign, and not everyone who is talented is going to receive a principle role in the spring show.  Please understand that we are doing our best to remain completely impartial, casting based not only on talent, but also what we know of your work ethic and how people work and fit together within these characters in this show.  Even if you do not receive a principle role, it is not a reflection on your ability or the work you have done so far, and as always we are happy to give you audition feedback afterward to help you improve for your next audition.

Also, this show will be a little different, given Stephanie's impending maternity leave.  Specific section leaders will be cast in each voice part in the ensemble, and will be expected to assist with some sectional rehearsals as needed in the beginning months of the rehearsal process - it is a special honor to be chosen to fulfill this new role, and section leaders will be acknowledged in the program for their assistance in preparing their sections during the rehearsal process.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will begin promptly at 230pm Monday through Thursday.  This means you may need to be seated earlier than that to facilitate attendance and listen to announcements from the Board.  You are expected to attend ALL rehearsals, even if the schedule changes, so please plan to be unavailable EVERY Monday-Thursday 230-430pm.  Work, routine doctor appointments, etc are not excused absences, and will count against you.  If you receive three unexcused absences, you will be removed from the cast.

The tentative rehearsal schedule is posted on the calendar below.  It is subject to change based on Stephanie's leave, snow days/early dismissals, school holidays, necessity, etc.  The first Full Cast Meeting will take place at 230 on Wednesday, January 2 (the first day back from break).  You will receive materials and additional information at that time.

There is a cast bonding Movie Night on Friday, January 4 at 530pm.  We will serve pizza (a small fee will be collected that night), and ask that the cast members contribute additional snacks, paper products and beverages (cans or individual size bottles, please!).  After our party, we will adjourn to the auditorium to view the movie version of Once Upon a Mattress.  The evening should conclude around 830pm.

We will be announcing daily Ohana Awards during rehearsals this spring.  Students who see their peers performing acts that embody the idea of family in our program should write down their own name, the name of the person who is being recognized, and what they did that demonstrated their support of our Ohana Mission.  One or two awards will be read at the start of each rehearsal to recognize those students who are having a positive impact on our group.

At the performing arts banquet, Mariel and Stephanie will also be giving out awards to those students who we see excelling at the following traits:
Most Dedicated
Most Supportive
Most Improved
Most Conscientious
Most Welcoming
Perfect Attendance (will be given to ALL students who have perfect attendance during the spring show)

Students assigned to principle roles will be expected to complete character work assignments, occasionally outside of rehearsal time.  Please be prepared with those things as they are requested.

DRESS REHEARSALS

Everyone MUST be in attendance at ALL Dress Rehearsals for their entirety.  Absolutely no conflicts will be approved between March 2 and March 10.  Weekend Dress Rehearsal is tentatively scheduled for Saturday March 2, but is subject to move to Sunday March 3 if there is a drumline/guard competition on Saturday.  Please keep both dates open for now and we will let you know ASAP when the date is officially scheduled.  Weeknight Dress Rehearsals are Monday-Thursday March 4-7 from 5-10pm (call times will be announced for specific groups as we get closer to production week).  If you are unable to attend these rehearsals, or are unable to stay until 10pm, you should not audition for the show.  If you are unable to complete your required academic work based on our rehearsal schedule, you should not audition for the show - your responsibility as a student is the top priority and must come first.  If you have a restricted driver's license and cannot drive late, you should arrange for alternate transportation during production week.

PERFORMANCES

Show dates are March 8 & 9 at 730pm and March 10 at 2pm.  Please note the earlier start time for the Friday and Saturday shows!

If you have any questions, please email Stephanie (until she goes on maternity leave) or Mariel.  We're looking forward to working with all of you on this production! :)
